  • My own new Studio!

I'm so excited! Finally, (after the pains of dealing with new construction) I'm operating in my own new "loft-style" studio!  Ever since I was an actor in NYC and had my headshots done by Tess Steinkolk I've secretly dreamed of someday having my own photography loft space... a comfortable space to create in...and now I have it!  For the last few years I've mostly photographed on location because hey...it's sunny California!  But living in the Valley where it can get up to 110 degrees a cool air conditioned space is just awesome!  I've always wanted a kid-friendly space where I can shoot my headshots and family portraiture so I've basically gutted and converted my home garage to have a cathedral ceiling with a huge industrial fan and recessed lighting, polished and custom stained the concrete floor, added a new bay window and dutch door with outside access along with a new home access door and windowed garage bay opening.  It can be used as a natural light studio or with my studio lights. I've now just got a few finishing touches and landscaping for the garden areas but I've already had my first few photoshoots in it so hey... I'm open for business! I really want to thank my wife and kids for putting up with all the construction and temporary storage that took over our house for the last couple of months.  My door is open... so hey if you're in the neighborhood stop by and check it out!

  • Charles Durning Pre SAG Awards

On January 27th I had both the honor an privilege to photograph actor Charles Durning and his lovely family in their LA home. Charles was to be the recipient of the 2008 SAG Lifetime Achievment Award later that evening.  Charles is an octogenarian and has appeared in more films than his years. I have always been a big fan and it was really an incredible opportunity for me to share some time with this warm artist. He shared many stories with me of his journey as an actor and as we spoke I could see several original Hirschfelds covering his walls of Broadway Shows he had starred in along with many awards of critical acclaim.  Quite a rich life, legacy and success story for someone who was told early on in his acting career that he should get out of the business because he would never make it as an actor! *Note:  It was a very cloudy and rainy day yet these are a couple of the images I was able to quickly capture with natural window light using my Canon 5D when the clouds parted.
